It follows the episode "The one with the Jam" where Ross teaches Chandler how to « not » cuddle in bed. Rachel learns from Janice that Ross is doing it with her. She is mad at him.

Rachel is lying in bed when Ross comes into the room. He walks near her side and whispers

‘ Honey ? You’re sleeping ? ’

She keeps her eyes close but answers him that no, she isn’t sleeping. After the fight they had this afternoon Ross doesn’t really know what to expect from Rachel. Is she still mad at him ? Has she forgiven him ?

‘ I can sleep here right ?’

She still doesn’t move and answer with a little coldness in her voice

‘ Sure ’

Ross doesn’t want to comment about her tone. She will sleep on their fight and tomorrow it will be okay. She never stays really long mad at him like he can’t stay mad at her.
He takes off his shirt, shoes, socks and pants to only wear his underwear. He slides into the bed on his side. He turns off the light and comes a little closer to Rach.

‘ Night honey ’
‘ Night Ross ’

She turns around in the bed so now she is facing Ross even if she still hasn’t opened her eyes. Ross takes that as a sign, move closer to her and put his arm around her waist. She reacts really fast and sits up in the bed.

‘ What do you think you’re doing ? ’ she says, talking loudly

Ross also sits up

‘ Wow Rach calm down ’
‘ No I won’t calm down. First you make fun of me by saying to our friend that you can’t sleep at night because of me and now, as if nothing happened, you put your arm around my waist ! ’

Ross is surprised by what she has just said. He didn’t think that she takes it so seriously.

‘ Rach, I wasn’t making fun of you ’

He wants to put his hand on her arm but she moves it away

‘ Don’t touch me ’

Ross looks at her and sees that she is really angry at him.

‘ Rachel, listen to me ’

She turns her head and lay down to go to sleep. She doesn’t want to talk to Ross tonight.

‘ No, come on Rach, I don’t want you to be mad at me ’
‘ Too late !! ’
‘ Rachel listen. I wasn’t making fun of you earlier. I love sleeping next to you ok? I love everything, I love how you stay close to me at night. I love when you put your head on my shoulder to fall asleep. I love how you caress my arm with you hand to help you falling asleep. I love how your hairs fall on my head when you’re asleep. I love to have you so close to me that I can smell your perfume. I love everything Rach, everything. It’s just that sometimes I need to have a little space to fall asleep. I’m a light sleeper so any movement wakes me up. But during our relationship I might have done the cushion thing one or two times to fall asleep better but that’s it. Rachel please believes me when I say that I love to have you next to me at night because it’s true. I sleep worst when I sleep alone. I need you next to me. ’

Rachel stays silent and doesn’t move so Ross doesn’t know what to expect

‘ Please Rachel say something ’
‘ Ok ’
‘ What ? ’
‘ Ok, as in ok I believe you ’

She looks at him for the first time tonight and gives him a light smile.

‘ I wasn’t really mad at you. I was hurt ’
‘ Oh Rach... ’
‘ No, I know that it’s crazy but it’s just that I love to sleep next to you... so when I heard Janice saying all these things it hurts me to think that you weren’t  feeling the same way. ’

Ross takes her hand and this time she doesn’t move it away

‘ I’m really sorry that I made you feel that way but I swear that I adore sleeping close to you ’

Rachel smiles at him and kisses him lightly on the lips

‘I believe you’

They both lay down on the bed. Each on their side of the bed facing the ceiling. Neither of them is moving.

‘ Come here Rach ’

We see her smile and moves as close as she could to Ross. He puts both of his arms around her body. She has her head on his shoulder rubbing his arm with her hand.

‘ Love you Ross ’

Ross puts a kiss on her head and answer

‘ Love you too ’

He gives her another kiss

‘ So much ’
